EASTERN EUROPE. Uncertain Celtic Tribe. Ca. 3rd-2nd centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (24mm, 14.40 gm, 12h). NGC AU 5/5 - 2/5, test cut. Imitating Philip II of Macedon. Laureate head of Zeus right / ΦΙΛΙΠ-ΠΟΥ, nude youth astride prancing horse right, palm branch in right hand, reins in left; vertical branch below horse, Π below raised foreleg. Cf. La Tour 9708 var. (torch under horse). Hints of red, violet, and blue toning on slate surfaces. A handsome style example, true to the tetradrachms it is copying.

Celticized, laureate male head right, wearing mustache / Celticized horseman trotting left, right hand raised, horse's right foreleg raised; rosette below. Dembski 1278. Flesche 678. Lanz -. OTA 348/2. Steely surfaces with russet and beige tones amplifying the bold devices.

Junius Brutus) walking left, accompanied by two lictors fore and aft, BR monogram before, KOΣΩN in exergue / Eagle with spread wings standing left on scepter, clutching laurel wreath in right talon. RPC I 1701a (ΟΛΒ monogram for Olbia). Resilient luster radiates from the sun-kissed surfaces.

RPC I 1701a (ΟΛΒ monogram for Olbia). Glittering, velveteen surfaces with clear devices.

SIGISMVNDVS BATHORI His armored half-length bust facing right, holding mace over right shoulder // PRINCEPS TRANSYLVANIÆ 1596 Crowned Coat of Arms with angelic supporters. A pleasing example admitting balanced wear to high-points on both sides, still bold in expression. Toned to an attractive pewter hue, and certain to excite the dedicated Transylvanian specialist.
