Today, March 30, the first national commemorative 2-euro coin of Portugal in 2022, which celebrates the "Centenary of the First Air Crossing of the South Atlantic", has been put into circulation and for sale, according to version, made between 30 March March and June 17, 1922 by the Portuguese aviators Carlos Viegas Gago Coutinho and Artur de Sacadura Freire Cabral.
The national side of the coin features the representation of one of the three Faire III biplanes that were used to make the flight between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro. The inscription "TRAVESSIA DO ATLÂNTICO SUL" appears below the plane. The legend “PORTUGAL 1922-2022”, the mint mark of “CASA DA MOEDA” and the name of the designer “JJ Brito” complete the composition.
The issue volume for this coin is 1,015,000 pieces. 1,000,000 are distributed in rolls of 25 coins intended for circulation, in addition to 7,500 in BU quality and another 7,500 in Proof quality, in the presentations that you can see in the image above.
