Ignacy Łukasiewicz, was a Polish pharmacist who invented the first method of distilling kerosene through oil filtering. He was also the founder of the Polish oil industry and one of the world's pioneers of the oil industry. Among his achievements is the creation of kerosene refining from crude oil, the kerosene lamp, the discovery of the first oil well and the construction of the first oil refinery.
The National Bank of Poland has issued a silver coin to mark the bicentenary of the birth of this illustrious character, who with his inventions contributed to important advances in Polish and world industry.
The reverse of the coin features the image of Ignacy Łukasiewicz, with a prototype of the paraffin lamp, and a view of the oldest oil well in the world created by Łukasiewicz in Bóbrka.
The obverse shows in the center the image of the Eagle representing the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland, below the Eagle, on the right side, the mark of the Mint. Below, the inscription: 10 ZŁ, as face value, and 2022, as year of issue. Along the top semicircle is the name of the country: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA.
