The Central Bank of Malta wanted to join the celebrations of Europride 2023, which will be held in Valletta from September 7 to 17, with the issuance of two coins, both with the same design, but minted on different metals and with different faces.Europride 2023
EuroPride is the largest Pride in Europe and is celebrated in a city each year. The capital of Malta hosts this great event this year.
Malta's LGBTIQ+ community is a proud part of the European LGBTIQ+ movement, but is also at the heart of the Middle East and North Africa regions, where equality is still a long way off. Since Malta has been ranked first in the Rainbow Europe Index for five consecutive years, it wants to remain that way and is therefore constantly working to achieve full equality from the heart in Malta, as well as in neighboring communities where LGBTIphobia and the lack of human rights they still abound.
The coins
The 2 ½ euro “EuroPride Malta” coin is made of cupro-nickel and comes presented on a coincard that has a cheerful design, both on the obverse and the reverse, of a rainbow, the best-known symbol of the LGBTI+ community.
On the reverse of the coin there is the logo of the Central Bank of Malta and, below it, the year 2023.
The 10 euro coin is made of silver and is minted in Proof quality and is more attractive due to its colored details on the obverse of the coin. The letters of the word "PRIDE" are visible in rainbow colors.
The reverse of the coin shows the logo of the Central Bank of Malta and, below, the year 2023. The coin comes presented in a light blue case.
