The Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank) issues a new piece to continue the series of coins that began in 2010 dedicated to Hungarian National Parks. This new addition is dedicated to the Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park, and has two versions, one in silver with a face of 15,000 forints and another in cupronickel with a face of 3,000 forints, making these coins a tribute to the park itself as well as the 50th anniversary of its creation. . Both coins have been designed by the artist Gábor Kereszthury.

Created in 1973, the Hortobágy National Park is the first and largest national park in Hungary. Initially, the area of the Hortobágy National Park covered 52,000 hectares, but as a result of continuous expansion and integration, it has grown to approximately 82,000 hectares. This park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. For more than two thousand years, it has provided visible evidence of the traditional use of grazing land and exemplified the harmonious relationship between man and nature. Grasslands, as a cultural landscape shaped by pastoralist societies, are unique in their pattern and combination of distinctive landscape features.

Both versions have an obverse where a group of perched cranes appears, one of the most characteristic species of the park. The design is completed with the inscription "DARU". The mandatory design elements are also listed: on the left, the inscription “MAGYARORSZÁG” (Hungary); on the right, in two lines, the denominations «15000» and «3000» at the top, as well as the letters «FORINT», the mintmark «BP.» and the year of minting “2023”.

While on the reverse, also common in both versions, it shows a view of the Hortobágy Puszta, with the sun in the background and a shaloof in the center, a unique landscape element that continues to serve as a union between people and nature. Above the central motif is the inscription “HORTOBÁGYI NEMZETI PARK”. In the lower left corner of the reverse is the applied artist's mark Gábor Kereszthury.
