To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the inauguration of the steam railway between Bratislava and Trnava, the Slovak Mint, Mincovňa Kremnica, has issued a 10 euro facial collector coin in silver.

The idea of ​​connecting Bratislava and Trnava by rail arose in light of Baron Salomon Mayer von Rothschild's plan to link Bratislava to the Vienna-Kraków main line. On March 4, 1836, Rothschild obtained approval for the construction of the main line, and on March 7, 1836 he requested permission to build a branch from Deutsch Wagram to Bratislava (then Pressburg) via Marchegg. The line to Trnava was to connect five royal cities: Bratislava, Svätý Jur, Pezinok, Modra and Trnava. Permission to build and operate the line was granted on March 6, 1839, and it was inaugurated on September 27, 1840. The line ceased to be animal-drawn on October 10, 1872, when work began to convert it into a steam line. Operated by the railway company Považská železnica, the steam line was ceremonially opened on May 1, 1873 with the first trip of a steam train from Bratislava to Trnava. The train had 12 carriages and was pulled by a locomotive named Nagy Szombat. The steam locomotives that ran on this line had three driving axles, pulled two-axle coal and water tenders, and reached a top speed of 45 km/h.

The lower part of the obverse of the coin depicts the historic buildings of the Bratislava and Trnava railway stations, each bearing the name of the city, “BRATISLAVA” and “TRNAVA”, and a section of the arched viaduct leading to them. To stop. In the lower right part of the design is the coat of arms of Slovakia, and to the left, in the lower center part, the year of issue "2023". At the top is a schematic representation of the Bratislava-Trnava railway line, with the names of five stations: SVÄTÝ JUR”, “PEZINOK”, “ŠENKVICE”, “BÁHOŇ” and “CÍFER”. Above these names is the denomination of the coin and currency "10 EURO", and in the upper center of the design is the name of the issuing country "SLOVENSKO".

The reverse represents a steam locomotive with a tender (a tank incorporated into the locomotive or attached to it, which carries the fuel and water necessary to feed it during the trip) on which the shields of Bratislava and Trnava appear. Along the upper semicircle are inscribed the names of the terminal stations “BRATISLAVA – TRNAVA” and, followed by an intermediate point, the year of inauguration of the steam line “1873”. Underneath the locomotive is the inscription "PARNÁ PREVÁDZKA" (steam-powered). At the bottom of the design is the mintmark of the Kremnica Mint, consisting of the letters "MK" placed between two dies, and the stylized initials "ZF", referring to the coin's designer, Zbyněk Fojtů .
