This silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint shows us all the beauty of the lake formed in the Pingualuit crater, making use of its innovative painting that shows motifs only under black light.

The Pingualuit crater lake was created when a meteorite struck the Earth, almost vertically, approximately 1.4 million years ago, creating an almost perfect circle on the Earth's surface.

The impact created a ring measuring 3.4 kilometers in diameter, and when the ice sheet receded during the last ice age, water filled the crater to form a 267-meter-deep lake. Because there are no entrances or exits, the lake contains some of the clearest fresh water on Earth. It is also home to only one species of fish, Arctic char.

This colorful coin offers an impressive view of this natural wonder: in normal light, the Glass Eye of Nunavik is seen looming into space. While, in black light, the design on the reverse transports us back in time, to see the meteorite that altered the landscape by colliding with prehistoric Canada and leaving an almost perfectly circular impact on the ground.

The reverse design features a colorful space view of Pingualuit Crater Lake on the Ungava Peninsula in Nunavik, Quebec.

But a second image, one that only reveals itself under a black light, takes us back in time, to show the meteorite on its collision course with prehistoric Canada.

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the work of Susanna Blunt.
