Those of us who have been around for a while now remember with nostalgia one of the best European basketball players of the 1980s, Dražen Petrović, who left an indelible mark and defined an era in European basketball.To mark the 60th anniversary of his birth on 22 October 1964, the Croatian National Bank, in cooperation with the Croatian Mint, will issue five coins on 5 September, all with the same design, in memory of the great basketball player.
The Petrović family and the Dražen Petrović Foundation approved this issue and provided all the information and materials necessary to bring to life this unique edition of coins which has been designed by artist Nikola Vudrag.
The issue consists of the following five coins: two gold coins with face values of 100 and 200 euros, and three silver coins with face values of 4, 6 and 8 euros. The coins have been minted by the Croatian Mint in the highest quality, the Proof quality.

As I said before, all coins have the same design, in which only the face value changes.
The obverse of the coins shows the profile of Dražen Petrović shooting a basket, the background depicts a stylised image of part of a basketball court. To the left of the central motif is the inscription “DRAŽEN PETROVIĆ”, and to the right is the year of issue “2024”.
The reverse of the coins depicts a stylised basketball hoop with a basketball inserted into it, with the characteristic squares in the background, symbolising the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. Surrounding the motif are the inscriptions “REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA” (Republic of Croatia) and the designation of the face value “200”, “100”, “8”, “6” or “4” and the name of the currency “EURO”.
