The Italian Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato has issued this May a new 5 euro silver coin with face dedicated to commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the first session of the Senate of the Italian Republic.

This piece commemorates one of the most important milestones in the political history of Italy. Well, it marked a great step in the country's democracy, by allowing all citizens to have a voice in the election of their representatives in the Senate.

But beyond its historical importance, this anniversary also has a very relevant symbolic meaning, as it is an opportunity to remember that democracy and respect for human rights are universal principles that must be valued and protected at all times.

On the obverse of the coin there is a representation of the Legislative Chamber of Palazzo Madama in which the institutional logo of the Senate of the Republic stands out at the bottom. Around the central motif, a blue frame inspired by the decorative details of the dome ceiling, called Velario, which adorns the vault of the Aula. In the upper part, in the shape of an arc, the inscription “ITALIAN REPUBLIC” delimited by a thin tricolor band of the Italian flag. The respective dates "8 DE MAYO DE 1948" and "8 DE MAYO DE 2023" inscribed on two calendars on the sides of the composition, the logo of the Senate in the center, in correspondence with the session of the President, and the institutional logo on the subframe are made in microwriting.

While on the back we see a detail of the fresco "Allegoria del carro del Sole" by Giovanni Paolo Pannini, made between 1725 and 1726, the main decoration of the ceiling of the Pannini Room of Palazzo Madama, where the Presidency Council of the Senate meets. and the Conference of Presidents of the Parliamentary Groups. In the lower part, the date of the first session of the Senate "8 DE MAYO 1948" and the inscription "FOR VOTE OF PEOPLE TO PRESIDIO OF PUBLIC LIBERTY" present on the front wall of the Legislative Chamber that shows the phrase of the constituent fathers . On the left, “R”, identifier of the Rome Mint, and “2023”, year of issue of the coin, on the right the face value “5 EURO”, and on the bottom right the signature of the author "M. Boniface."
