The collector's coin that will be issued in Poland on January 27 will be under the name "Protection of the Polish eastern border" and with it we want to recognize the army and the rest of the Polish security forces that participated in containing the migratory avalanche from Belarus. A few months ago this situation opened the news around the world.
In order for you to situate yourself in the exact context of the issue of the coin, I am going to translate the press release that the National Bank of Poland has released about it, in which not only numismatics is discussed.
In the face of hybrid warfare activities taking place on the eastern border of Poland, Border Guard officers, policemen and soldiers demonstrate the highest professionalism and devotion to the Polish state and its citizens. The National Bank of Poland would like to commemorate his heroic stand by issuing a silver collector's coin "Protection of the Polish Eastern Border". The new coin with a nominal value of PLN 10 will be available from January 27, 2022.
In the summer of 2021, Poland faced the biggest threat to its borders in many years. The dictatorial regime of Alexander Lukashenka in Belarus began to bring, mainly from Asian countries, thousands of immigrants who wanted to enter the European Union illegally. The cooperation with criminal groups specialized in human trafficking and the wide distribution of visas caused the concentration of numerous groups near the Polish border, seeking to cross it. Equipped by the Lukashenka regime with tools to destroy fences and with objects to attack guards, they tried to penetrate the territory of the Polish state.
Officers from the Podlasie and Nadbużański Border Guard Departments, as well as their seconded colleagues from other regions, joined the active protection of the 418 km border with Belarus.
By December 2021, Border Guard agents, along with police and soldiers, had thwarted around 40,000. attempts to illegally cross the border. As a result of the use of various forms of violence by migrants, many of those guarding our territory were injured. Since the beginning of the artificially induced crisis, the Border Guard has been conducting activities informing new arrivals brought to Belarus that they are being used to destabilize Poland. Assistance is provided to those in need, but only actual refugees are allowed to stay.
In the face of hybrid warfare, Border Guard officers, as well as policemen and soldiers, have shown the highest professionalism and devotion to the Polish state and its citizens.
