Last year the Italian Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato launched a new series of coins called "Sustainable World - Endangered Animals", with a first piece dedicated to the Tiger. The series is an imitation of the original idea of the Austrian Mint, which has been issuing series for years in which animals are represented that have the particularity that they are colored with fluorescent inks that make the silhouette of the animal in question glow in the dark.
The second Italian piece will go on sale next Monday, August 30 and will feature the Polar Bear. There are an estimated 25,000 polar bears in the Arctic. Their main habitat is sea ice, where they hunt seals waiting for them to surface. In some areas the bears stay on the ice all year round, but in others the spring and summer thaw forces them to land.
Polar bears, the world's largest bear and the Arctic's top predator could be nearly extinct by the end of the century as a result of shrinking Arctic sea ice if global warming continues unabated.
The reverse of the coin shows a representation formed by three polar bears on the ice. Above, the inscription "ORSO POLARE" and the face value "5 EURO"; in the exergue, «2021», the year of issue of the coin and «R», which identifies the Mint of Rome. The coin features fluorescent colors that make it glow in the dark.
In the foreground, on the obverse of the coin, a color composition of some representative animal species of the terrestrial fauna that coexist in harmony is shown.
with the environment. Above right is the legend, "ITALIAN REPUBLIC"; at the bottom, the name of the artist who created the design «PETRASSI» (Silvia Petrassi).

To finish, I will leave you with a video where an Italian collector shows the first coin of the series, issued last year, and the official album where to keep the collection, of which we have no knowledge about the number of pieces that will compose it or which animals will they be dedicated to.
