I.Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB XF Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Kremnitz mint, KM134, Dav-4710, Resch-81. Obv. Armored bust right. Rev. Crowned arms with date. Well struck with moderate gray patina. Light scratches are noted in the obverse field. Very scarce.

II. Achatius Barcsai (1658-60) Taler 1659-CV VF20 Details (Scratched) ANACS, KM320, Dav-4758, Resch-5A. Obv Half-length portrait of Achatiu Barcsai right holding scepter. Rev. Crowned arms, dividing C-V, with date in legend. Light gray patina, with obverse flan flaws. ANACS has an incorrect ruler (George II) listed on the holder. Very scarce.

III. Charles VI gold Ducat 1729 XF45 ANACS, KM581, Fr-520. Obv. Laureate bust of Charles VI right. Rev. Crowned eagle with shield on breast. A slightly wavy flan, with nice detail for the issue.

IV. Johann II Sigismund (with Isabella as Regent 1556-1559) gold Ducat 1557 AU55 Details (Plugged) ANACS, Nagybánya mint, Fr-264, Resch-31. A very rare issue of Johann II under the regency of his mother, well-struck overall on a slightly wavy flan with minimal striking weakness.

V. Johann II Sigismund gold Ducat 1565 AU50 Details (Bent-Straightened) ANACS, FR-275. Obv. Crowned ornate arms. Rev. Madonna seated with child. Fully discernable details, bold legends, and an overall pleasing appeal despite the noted surface deficiencies.

VI. Gabriel Bethlen gold Ducat 1621-NB AU58 Details (Bent) ANACS, Nagybánya mint, KM139. Obv. Bareheaded, draped, and mantled bust right, wearing high collar. Rev. The Madonna seated facing on crescent, holding Holy Infant. Quite attractive and well preserved despite the noted deficiencies in the flan.

VII. Stephen Bathory 3 Groschen 1583 AU50 ANACS, Gum-707. Incorrectly described on holder as "1 Groschen".

VIII. Stephan Bocskai 3 Groschen 1607 VF30 ANACS, KM39. Posthumous issue.

IX. Gabriel Bathori Groschen 1612-NB MS61 ANACS, Nagybanya, Baia-Mare mint, KM72.

X. Charles VI gold 1/4 Ducat ND (1711-40) XF40 Details (Jewelry Removed) ANACS, KM548. AGW 0.0277 oz.

XI. Sigismund Bathori Taler 1593 AU53 NGC, Dav-8803. An exceptional example featuring even wear and pleasing surfaces, along with an alluring old time cabinet tone. The Transylvanian prince is depicted here with the traditional hairstyle of the time and region, with nearly all the hair being closely cropped save for a longer tuft near the top and front.

XII. George Rakoczi II gold Ducat 1649-NB AU (Obverse Scratched) NGC, Nagybanya Mint, KM274, Fr-399. Evenly struck for the issue with significant luster remaining over the surfaces. For accuracy's sake, a few arrant marks are present atop the obverse and an unusual flan irregularity exists at the edge at 5 o'clock where a piece of metal has nearly detached.

XIII. Maria Theresa gold 1/2 Ducat 1780 H-S UNC Details (Bent) NGC, Karlsburg mint, KM655, Fr-545. Though struck on a slightly bent and somewhat waffled flan, the subtle dips and peaks in the surfaces nicely reflect incoming rays of light to give an appearance not unlike gold leaf. The reverse retains superb details fulling deserving of mintstate status in and of themselves.

XIV. Georg Rakoczi II Taler 1659 XF45 NGC, KM311A, Dav-4756. Original surfaces and bold detailing remain the focus of this scarce issue, made even more intriguing by the presence of subtle ghosting throughout the raised designs and few noteworthy post-strike marks for the assigned grade. Currently the only certified example of this date by NGC.

XV. Sigismund Bathori Taler 1591 MS63 NGC, Nagybánya mint, Dav-8802, Resch-83 var. (rev. legend). Obv. Armored half-length bust right, holding scepter and sword-in-scabbard. Rev. Crowned coat-of-arms with angelic supporters. Featuring a lesser-seen reverse legend (Transsilvania as opposed to the more common Transsylvania), this choice taler likely represents the finest graded of the date by either service, with a sharply struck design and blazing argent surfaces. The flan is slightly clipped near the top, though is wholly consistent with the cruder form of manufacture for these types. For comparison, a similarly graded and dated piece (a 1592 NGC MS64) realized a hammer of $6,500 in our 2015 ANA auction (sale 3041, lot 32414).
