On April 12, the Bank of Poland, Narodowy Bank Polski, will issue a new silver coin with a face value of 10 złoty dedicated to the Polish politician Stanisław Wojciechowski.
Stanisław Wojciechowski was born in 1869 in Kalisz. After the war broke out in 1914, Wojciechowski became a member of the Central Civic Committee of the City of Warsaw and the Polish National Committee, then, after his trip to the East in 1915, he sat on the Central Civic Committee of the Kingdom of Poland. in Russia. There, he collaborated closely with Władysław Grabski of the secret National League.
When the February Revolution broke out in Russia, Wojciechowski took over the leadership of the Council of the Union of Polish Parties.
After his return to Poland he becomes Minister of the Interior, participating in the drafting of the constitution, organizing the ministry, the state administration and the local government administration.
In 1921, Wojciechowski joined the PSL “Piast” and was elected President of Poland after the death of Gabriel Narutowicz.
During World War II, he remained in Warsaw, and in 1941 his son was assassinated at KL Auschwitz. After arresting his son, the Germans asked Wojciechowski to sign a declaration of allegiance to the Third Reich, which he refused.
He and his wife were nearly killed during the Warsaw Uprising when the Germans set their house on fire. When he fell Warsaw, he was transferred to a camp in Pruszków and after the war he moved with the Grabski family to Gołąbki near Warsaw, where he died on April 9, 1953.
The reverse of the coin features an image of Stanisław Wojciechowski and a facsimile of his signature, as well as the dates of his birth and death, the Order of the White Eagle, with which he was awarded, and a quote from his words as president. on May 12, 1926.
