A new coin, in silver and copper, will be issued by the Italian Mint tomorrow, April 22, this piece will be destined to commemorate the Protection of the environment, a law included in the Italian constitution.

On February 8, 2022, Italy added the protection of the environment to its constitution through the constitutional law AC 3156, thus raising the importance of protecting it. Thanks to this, the Italian Parliament was able to introduce several amendments within articles 9 and 41. Article nine indicated that "the Republic promotes the development of culture and scientific and technical research" to which is currently added "the protection of the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems in the interest of future generations”. While in article 41 which affirmed that "economic initiative is free", it was added in an explanatory manner that "it cannot be developed in contrast to social utility or in a way that harms security, freedom and human dignity" , nor “health and the environment”.

On the obverse of the coin we see the representation of a seed under the ground, carefully decorated with a fragment of text from article 9 of the Italian Constitution where it talks about the protection of the environment and biodiversity. Above left, a caterpillar on a branch prepares for its metamorphosis. In the lower part of the outer frame, in copper, there is a relief motif that represents the ecosystems of nature, and above we see the inscription "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA".

On the other hand, on the back of the piece, the representation of a new terrain is created, with some color elements, in which a seed comes to life, and on it is a fragment of text from article 41 of the Italian Constitution. , which highlights the right and duty of every citizen to protect nature. In the background, we see butterflies flying, completing their metamorphosis process, an image that links ideally with the obverse. The inscriptions of the face value "5 EURO" also appear on the left, on the right the year of issue of the coin "2023", the letter "R" identifying mark of the Rome Mint, and at the bottom the author's signature “E. FERRETTI”.
