The Slovak Mint, Mincovňa Kremnica, issued on January 27 a 10-euro silver collector's coin dedicated to the poet Krista Bendová on the centenary of her birth.

Krista Bendová (1923 – 1988) was the author of humorous children's poetry and prose that offered a child's vision of the world. She is one of the most prominent post-war Slovak authors of children's literature. Despite displaying a certain divergence of values, her works have a timeless quality that has ensured they continue to be reprinted and translated into many languages. Humor and fantasy gradually became the dominant characteristics of her work. Bendová draws themes from the children's daily lives, and the child hero becomes the channel and measure of her lyrical narrative. Bendová's iconic books Bola raz jedna trieda ("Once upon a time there was a classroom") and Opice z našej police ("The monkeys on our bookshelf"), along with a series of children's stories starring the character "Osmijanko".

The reverse of the coin shows a portrait of Krista Bendová and an open book in the left background with part of her face on the right page. The drawing on the left page refers to Bendová's book Bola raz jedna trya ('Once upon a time there was a class'). Inscribed on the bottom edge are the author's name 'KRISTA BENDOVÁ' and the dates of her birth and death '1923–1988'. Beneath the book is a stylized letter 'N', referring to the surname of the reverse designer Štefan Novotný, and the mintmark of the Kremnica Mint (Mincovňa Kremnica), consisting of the letters 'MK' placed between two dies.

The obverse design references the title of one of Krista Bendová's books, Opice z našej police ('Monkeys on our bookshelf'), which depicts three monkeys on or in front of three bookshelves. On the bottom left of the design is the coat of arms of Slovakia, and on the right side are the coin denomination '10' and the currency 'EURO', one on top of the other. The name of the issuing country 'SLOVENSKO' and the year of issue '2023' are inscribed on the upper edge. The stylized initials 'KL' appear in the center of the design, referring to the obverse designer Karol Ličko.
