I am still on the trail of the 2 Euro coin commemorating Finland 2019 «Constitution Act of 1919». Of which I have some new information after the mails sent last week to different agencies and official entities of Finland.
First of all tell you that last Friday the Ministry of Finance of Finland published a press release in which it announced that it had awarded the contract for the production and sale of Finnish collector coins to, Oy Nordic Moneta Ab, which also includes the marketing of series of Finnish coins and commemorative coins of two euros.
The contract with Nordic Moneta extends from December 1, 2019 until December 31, 2022 and includes an option for two extensions for more than one year.
No new collector coins will be minted in 2019. The Ministry of Finance will issue a separate announcement if it decides to issue any other collector coin product before the end of the year (including the commemorative coin of the Finland Constitution Act of 1919).
After knowing the press release now comes the question we all ask ourselves, will this company sell the 2 Euro commemorative coin of Finland 2019? Let's consider the following. The new company that will market the numismatic emissions of Finland will not do so until next December 1.
Today I received an email from Tanja Raita, from the Bank of Finland, in which I confirmed, after my question to the Bank itself, that the 500,000 coins that make up the issuance of the 2 Euro commemorative Finland 2019 coin have already been issued. Therefore we can rule out that those destined for circulation, this year, put them on sale.
And now what? ... On the one hand we are clear that to get the currency, it has to be from someone who in Finland can get it in the rolls in which they are being put into circulation. I do not know if they are distributed there the same as in Spain or it is done differently. It will be very difficult to get a coin at the Uncirculated or UNC state at a good price, and this currency has a very important added problem. As it has very little engraving, any small scratch or damage will be very visible. Even a coin removed from the roll, sure that it already has small damages, those that occur during the minting process when hitting each other.
We have a possibility. It enters into the calculations that a small number of these coins may have been minted for collectors in BU or Proof qualities, coins that would be ideal for our collections, as they would lack marks or strokes. The new company may sell them from December 1, the date on which the contract enters into force.
