With the new 500 peso bill (€ 22.6), the renewal of paper money in Mexico is underway. The denomination of 500 pesos has begun to put into circulation today Tuesday August 28. The new banknotes present improvements
in their security, functionality and durability characteristics, as well as graphic motifs
that represent Mexico's historical identity and natural heritage.
The predominant color of this new bill of 500 pesos is blue, the substrate on which it is printed is made of cotton and has measures of 146 mm long x 65 mm high.
Obverse: The process of the Reformation and the Restoration of the Republic is illustrated, for that reason, the main motive is a portrait of President Benito Juárez (1806-1872), main character of the Liberal Reformation and on his left, the vignette is a fragment of the engraving of Alberto Beltrán, which represents the triumphal entry of Juarez into Mexico City, beginning the period known as the Restored Republic. Complete the composition, the legend " PRESIDENTE BENITO JUÁREZ, DRIVER OF THE LAWS OF REFORM, AT HIS TRIUMPHAL ENTRANCE TO THE CITY OF MEXICO ON JULY 15, 1867, SYMBOLIZING THE RESTORATION OF THE REPUBLIC".
Reverse: The ecosystem of coasts, seas and islands in the Biosphere Reserve of El Vizcaíno, a natural patrimony of humanity, located in Baja California Sur, is illustrated . At the center of the ticket and as the main reason, there is the image of a gray whale with its whalebone and to its right is the legend "ECOSYSTEM OF COASTS, SEA AND ISLANDS, REPRESENTED BY THE GRAY WHALE, ITS BALLENATO AND MARINE PASTOS, IN THE RESERVE OF THE BIZSPHERE EL VIZCAÍNO IN BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, NATURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY " . About the New Family
The new banknotes are characterized by reinforced security measures and elements and, at the same time, simple authentication for users, including people with visual impairment. They are also made with the latest generation materials , which will extend their useful life in circulation. The thematic motifs represented in their designs will allude to the historical processes that have defined Mexico as a nation, and for the first time, will emphasize the natural wealth that is distributed throughout the national territory.
In its front, in each denomination one of the following
historical processes will be represented : the Old Mexico, the Colony, the Independence, the Reformation and the Restoration
of the Republic, the Revolution and the Contemporary Mexico. In the reverse, the six most representative ecosystems of the Mexican geography will be represented: rivers and lakes, temperate forests , dry forests, thickets and deserts, coasts, seas and islands, and humid forests, through recognized sites in the list of " World Heritage "of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Also on the back of each new ticket there will be an element of fauna and flora identified with each
of the six ecosystems.
In the following stages of this issuance program, it is scheduled that in the second semester of 2019 and 2020, respectively, tickets corresponding to denominations of 200 and 1,000 pesos will be issued.
