A new coin has been issued by the Italian Mint, the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato Italiano, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the regulatory authority for Italian financial markets: the National Commission for Enterprise and the Stock Exchange of Italy (CONSOB).
The Italian National Commission for Companies and the Stock Exchange (CONSOB) is the Italian public authority in charge of regulating the country's financial markets. Its main objective is the protection of the investing public. In this regard, CONSOB is the competent authority to ensure transparency and correct behaviour of financial market participants; the disclosure of complete and accurate information to the investing public by listed companies; the accuracy of the facts represented in the prospectuses relating to the offer of transferable securities to the investing public; and compliance with regulations by auditors registered in the Special Register.
The obverse of the coin shows the logo of the “Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa” (Italian National Commission for Companies and the Stock Exchange), with the emblem of the Italian Republic and the inscription of the initials “CONSOB”. On the lower part, the dates of the year of its creation and of the issue of the coin “1974 – 2024” are also shown. Surrounding the composition is the inscription of the issuing country “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”, and at the bottom of the design we can see the signature of the author of the coin “V.DE SETA”.
On the other hand, the reverse of the coin shows two hands in the centre of the composition, symbolising the activity of safeguarding the Italian financial system and protecting investors, flanked by a graph indicating the trends of the stock market and companies (FTSE Italia MIB Historical), and above this again the dates “1974-2024”. At the top, we see the face value of the coin “5 EURO”, and below, the inscription “FIFTY ANNIVERSARY”, while at the bottom right, there is the letter “R”, identifying the Mint of Rome.
