As with the first commemorative 2 euro coin from Croatia this year, it was announced and issued a few days later. The same is happening with the second coin of this type issued by this country, about which we knew absolutely nothing and which is due to be issued tomorrow. I present the coin and all the information.
This second 2 euro commemorative coin is dedicated to the “Year of Marko Marulić”, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of the death of the man considered the father of Croatian literature.
The announced volume of issue is 200,000 pieces, of which 5,000 will be in Proof quality. The issue date is tomorrow, October 15. Although the coins intended for collectors will go on sale on the same date, they will not be shipped until December 2.
The national side of the coin, designed by Stjepan Divković, features the portrait of Marko Marulić as its central motif. In addition to the main motif, the commemorative coin also features the inscriptions “MARKO MARULIĆ” on the right, the year of issue “2024” at the bottom and the identification of the issuing country “HR” of the Republic of Croatia on the left.
The edge of the coin features the text "O LIJEPA O DRAGA O SLATKA SLOBODO" (O beautiful, O dear, O sweet freedom) from the Hymn to Freedom, which is an integral part of the pastoral work "Dubravka" by the 17th century Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.
The coin in Proof quality has a mintage volume of 5,000 pieces. The retail price in Croatia is 29.99 euros.
