The Bank of Estonia announces the issuance on May 21 of a commemorative 2 euro coin under the name "The Cornflower, Estonia's national flower" as part of a series of coins displaying the country's national symbols. This began in 2021 with "The Wolf, Estonia's national animal" and was followed in 2023 by "The Barn Swallow, Estonia's national bird."

The distinctive blue cornflower, Centaurea cyanus, was chosen as the national flower of Estonia in 1968. Cornflower flowers are often depicted in the shape of eight points protruding from within, a popular Estonian design and symbol that is often traditionally used as a sign of luck and symbol of love.

The central image of the coin, designed by Kaupo Kangro, shows two cornflower flowers, one of them open in all its splendor, against a background that shows its natural environment, a windswept grain field. On the left side there is the legend of the scientific name of the plant, "CENTAUREA CYANUS" and at the bottom the name of the country and the year of issue "EESTI 2024".

A total of one million coins have been minted, of which 12,000 in BU quality are presented on a coincard designed by Vladimir Taiger. Its price is 12 euros in Estonia.
