To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the Royal Mint is issuing coins that have been designed by Jim Kay, the artist who created the first fully illustrated edition of Harry Potter. Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997, selling 120 million copies. This was the first book that would later become a seven-part series of fantasy literature, inviting generations of readers to explore the magical world of witches and wizards. The character and his adventures were born from the inspiration of the British writer JK Rowling.
The coin, which can be purchased with or without coloring, features the image of the famous orphan sporting his round glasses, straight hair and lightning bolt scar.
The obverse continues to display the traditional image of Queen Elizabeth II created by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. The face value of 50 PENCE (pence) and the year of issue, 2022, appear around the image of the monarch.

This is the first coin in a series of four. The first two will feature the portrait of Elizabeth II, and the last two coins will feature the official portrait of King Carlos III.
