A gold coin dedicated to the Trevi Fountain inaugurates a new series of coins dedicated to the most beautiful fountains in Italy. The Italian Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato inaugurates this new thematic collection that is minted on small gold coins of 900% purity, 13.85 mm in diameter and weighing 3 grams.
The Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous fountain in Rome, considered by many to be the most beautiful fountain in the world. It has a width of 20 meters and a height of 30 meters. It is located in the Piazza di Trevi. It marks the end point of the three-road junction that leads to Acqua Vergine, one of the aqueducts that once served as Ancient Rome's water source.
The reverse of the coin shows a detail from the Trevi Fountain in Rome with a horse supported by a triton. Above, the inscription “FONTANA DI TREVI”; on the left, "2022", year of issue of the coin; on the right, “R”, which identifies the Rome Mint; below, the face value “10 EURO”.
The obverse of the coin shows a typical Roman fountain that is nicknamed "Nasone" due to the curved shape of its spouts that resemble a "big nose"; On the left, the so-called "sampietrini" are represented, stone blocks that characterize the streets and squares of the historic center of the capital. On the right, the signature of the author “CASSOL” and, on the left, arched, the words “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”.
The coin is officially issued tomorrow, April 20, but the 1,500 coins that make up the issue have already been pre-sold in Italy at a price of €205.
