The Bank of Russia put into circulation on July 20 a commemorative and circulating coin with a face of 10 rubles of the bimetallic type, belonging to the series called "Ancient Cities of Russia" dedicated to the city of "Kozelsk", located in the oblast or Kaluga region.
Kozelsk is famous for the legendary seven-week defense against the Batú Kan army in 1238. All the inhabitants died, the city was destroyed, while Batú Kan, enraged by the Kozelsk fortress, called it the "city of evil".
In the 18th and 19th centuries, Kozelsk was a commercial transit city between Russia and Ukraine. From October 8 to December 28, 1941, Kozelsk was occupied by the Nazis. On December 5, 2009, Kozelsk received the honorary title of "City of Military Glory" for the courage, strength and courage of the people who defended Kozelsk. It currently has a population of close to 20,000 inhabitants.

The coin features a view of the Nikolskaya Church and an image of the Kozelsk municipal coat of arms. The inscriptions appear on the ring: "ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ" (OLD CITIES OF RUSSIA), at the top and "КОЗЕЛЬСК" (KOZELSK) at the bottom.
The obverse of the coin, at the top of the ring is shown the inscription "Bank of Russia", at the bottom "2020". To the left and right of the ring a branch of laurel and oak, respectively, elements that invade the central disc. In the center are the number "10" and the inscription "ruble" indicating the value of the coin. Inside the number "0" in a latent image you can see the number "10" and the inscription "rub". The mintmark is shown at the bottom.
