The Monnaie de Paris is the first European Mint to issue a numismatic product, a medal with the word MERCI, to recognize all the people and groups that France is keeping going during the health crisis we are experiencing caused by the Covid-19. Although the medal has been put up for sale today, its shipment is not scheduled until mid-June. This medal has a price of 8 euros, of which 6 will be donated to the Fondation de France, a network of philanthropy of great importance and highly recognized among the French people.
To thank the nursing staff and all the professions mobilized during the global health crisis, the Monnaie de Paris has decided to design and manufacture a commemorative medal to say "Thank you" to the women and men who helped during the crisis.
This "MERCI" medal, manufactured in the workshops of the Monnaie de Paris, will have strong symbolic value for each person called to work, treat, feed or protect the French during the period of confinement and health crises.
The reason, in the foreground, is to thank the medical staff who work hard and treat the many sick people, along with firefighters and ambulance drivers. The word "MERCI" appears at the top of the medal.
All three characters are applauded by multiple hands. In the second line, on the right side, some pictograms illustrate other professions mobilized during the crisis: farmers, merchants, cashiers, delivery men, postmen, cleaning staff, etc ...
On the left, some symbols that illustrate the health care system: numbers 15 and 18, the cross of life, the symbol of ambulance drivers, the Greek cross, the symbol of places of health, the "H" of hospitals and the Aesculapius wand, symbol of health professionals.
The design is completed with the coronavirus cloud that we hope to overcome as soon as possible.
The reverse of this 44 mm diameter and 17.7 gram weight medal features the Monnaie de Paris logo in the center, surrounded by a star ring with the year 2020.
