The Bank of Greece has issued a new Euroset for 2025, which includes the country's eight regular circulation euro coins, minted in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality. This set does not include this year's commemorative 2-euro coins. With an introductory price in Greece of 20 euros, the maximum mintage has been set at 5,000.

Following the tradition of previous years, the 2025 Euroset is dedicated to a tourist destination in the country, in this case, the region of Thessaly.

Thessaly, located in the center of mainland Greece, is a region of great geographical and historical significance. The vast Thessalian plain is surrounded by majestic mountains, such as Olympus, Othrys, Pindus, and Ossa, and is crossed by the Pinius River. Thanks to the fertility of its lands, it was a prominent center of Neolithic civilization in Greece. In the Mycenaean period, it housed the kingdom of Iolcus, the legendary birthplace of Jason and the starting point of the Argonauts' expedition.

The mythological imagery of Thessaly is deeply linked to Mount Olympus, the home of the gods, and Mount Pelion, the home of the centaurs, where the hero Achilles was raised by the wise centaur Chiron.

Thessaly was officially incorporated into the Greek state in 1881 and, until the liberation of Macedonia, played a key role as the country's breadbasket. Today, it remains one of Greece's main agricultural and livestock regions. However, in 2023, it suffered severe damage due to Storm Daniel.

Today, Thessaly is actively working on its recovery, supported by its natural and cultural wealth: the mythical Mount Olympus, the picturesque villages of Pelion, the impressive Lake Plastiras, the majestic monasteries of Meteora, and the verdant valley of Tempi are all part of its invaluable heritage.
