I also inform you of the maximum amounts that will be delivered to each person and where to get an appointment to go to withdraw coins.

First, let's take a brief look at the three 2-euro commemorative coins that Spain issues in 2022.

In 2010, the FNMT-RCM began issuing a series of 2-euro commemorative coins dedicated to Spanish sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2022 it is the turn of the thirteenth coin in the series, which is dedicated to the Garajonay National Park.

On the obverse, in the center of the coin and on a background of a terrestrial globe, the image of Juan Sebastián Elcano is reproduced, taken from the portrait that is preserved in the Naval Museum of Madrid, on which they appear, in its lower part and in capital letters, the legends 1519 1522, JUAN SEBASTIÁN ELCANO and PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME.
To his left, the Mint mark; To its right, in capital letters, the legend Spain and the year of minting 2022. Surrounding all the motifs and legends, in the outer circular area of the coin, appear the twelve stars of the European Union.

2 euro commemorative coin 2022 – 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program

As a way of recognizing one of the great and indisputable achievements of the European Union, the Erasmus Programme, a common commemorative 2 euro coin will be issued in 2022 to celebrate its 35th anniversary. The National Currency and Stamp Factory – Royal Mint, joins the celebration with the minting of this coin whose design has been chosen by vote.

On the obverse, the image of the portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam is reproduced on a bundle of links that crosses the central bottom of the coin forming the number 35.
On the image of Erasmus are the legends 1987–2022, ERASMUS

How and when to get the 2 euro commemorative coins of Spain in 2022

Those of us who have been collecting euro coins for a long time know very well what we must do to obtain the commemorative 2-euro coin each year that is issued in Spain at its face value, also for the rest of the circulating coins. For the newest I will explain the steps to follow to obtain these coins.

First of all, we would like to announce that the two national commemorative coins will be put into circulation on March 23, being distributed from that date in the different branches that the Bank of Spain has throughout the country.

The common commemorative, for the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Program, will be on July 1, along with the rest of the countries that participate in this issue.

Branches of the Bank of Spain where to get the currency

The Bank of Spain has its headquarters in Madrid; It also has 15 branches spread throughout the national territory.

As of today, they have confirmed to me, it is necessary to request an appointment in advance to be able to be attended, perhaps these restrictions will be lifted before March 23, but just in case it is advisable to request it.

The request for an appointment can be made through this Banco de España website or by calling 913 385 000 (valid for all branches) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Customer service hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Once at the branch

We will go to the window dedicated to the change of coins and banknotes in euros, in which we will request the coins that we want and through which we will pay the total amount requested in other coins or banknotes, as long as they are also euros. In principle, they have no obligation to provide us with coins from a specific year, only to provide change, but they usually have no problem providing us with what is requested, as long as they have it available. Sometimes they even have 2 euro commemorative coins from other years that you may be interested in.

As a general rule, and with few exceptions, the request for full rolls and not loose coins is attended to. The rolls of 2 euro coins come with 25 pieces, so they will exchange it for 50 euros. At home you can then open the roll, select the one that is or are in the best condition for your collection and the rest you can spend or use to exchange with other collectors, whether they are from Spain or from other parts of the world. There are websites where collectors get in touch to exchange coins.

Another issue to keep in mind is that all branches do not have the last currency issued at the same time. So it is easy that on March 23 some branches have the coins and others do not.

Just in case, for when the day comes, I leave you the telephone numbers of all the Bank of Spain branches, you can call beforehand and find out the availability of what you are looking for.

In the conversation with an employee of the Bank of Spain, he tells me that only one roll of coins of each type will be dispensed per person per day. They also point out to me that as of today they are not distributing regular circulation coins with a mint date of 2022, but that they are expected to do so by mid-March.
