The Austrian Mint starts a new series of coins that wants to conquer a part of society that is not usually collectors by nature, women. It is not well known why, but the male gender is clearly predominant among people who collect, not only in the field of numismatics, we can also extrapolate it to other types of collecting. The new series called the Language of Flowers has a marked feminine touch. Although men also like flowers, it seems that women have a special sensitivity to know how to appreciate the beauty of these gifts of nature much better.
This new series seems very interesting to me, not only because of the delicacy and good taste of what is represented on each coin, as an addition it can serve as a point of common interest for both sexes. We are going to get to know the series and the first coin, so that you yourself can assess the start, or not, of the new series.
THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS
Whether it is to convey feelings of love, desire or friendship, congratulations or condolences, declarations of intent and even forbidden and unspeakable things, flowers have been used as a form of language throughout history, each country and each culture has its own his own version.
The Language of Flowers revives this ancient custom and analyzes the meanings, folklore, properties and uses of seven well-known flowers. The messages these flowers convey are inspiring, as is the technology used to bring nature to life on coins.
FIRST COIN - THE ROSE
Symbolizing love, the obverse of the coin shows a couple exchanging a knowing look, each with flowers in their hair. Along with an ornamental side image of a rose, which is elegantly printed, the reverse of the coin features a pair of roses, which are actual flower prints.

None of the main flower images in the series are based on a drawing or an illustration: the starting point of the design of each coin is a real flower grown in the garden, which is then pressed with a special technique that captures the flower in its natural state.
