The Mint of the United States begins a new series of coins dedicated to the Constitution of the United States, which will reflect the five freedoms present in its First Amendment. The coins are comprised of one ounce of platinum, feature a $ 100 face, and are minted in Proof quality. There will be five pieces that are emitted between 2021 and 2025, one per year.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the creation of any law regarding the official establishment of a religion, which prevents the free practice of religion, which reduces freedom of expression, which violates the freedom of the press, which interferes with the right of peaceful assembly or that prohibits seeking compensation for government grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as the first of the ten amendments to the Bill of Rights (the collective name given to the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution passed on December 15, 1791).
This series uses the life cycle of oak from seedling to mighty oak as a metaphor for the growth of the United States, as a nation that values freedom. Freedom becomes something strong and beautiful from a seed. Each of the freedoms listed in the First Amendment contributes to the growth and development of the Nation.
The first coin in the series has just been issued and refers to Freedom of Religion. The obverse design shows a seedling and an acorn surrounded by the inscription "WITH THE FREEDOM OF RELIGION, FREEDOM GROWS." Additional inscriptions are "IN GOD WE TRUST", "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "2021". The design corresponds to Donna Weaver and has been engraved by Joseph Menna.
The common obverse design for this series shows an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "$ 100", "1 OZ." And ".9995 PLATINUM". The design corresponds to Patricia Lucas-Morris and the engraving to Don Everhart.
