The first 2-euro commemorative coin that Lithuania issues in 2020 is already ready to be put into circulation and for sale, according to the version, next Wednesday, September 16. This coin belongs to the series "Ethnographic Regions of Lithuania" and corresponds to the "Aukštaitija Region". The series is made up of five pieces, the same as the regions in Lithuania.
The national side of the coin, designed by Rolandas Rimkūnas, features a coat of arms with a knight dressed in armor holding a sword in his right hand. The coat of arms is in the hands of two angels, who symbolically exalt and protect Aukštaitija, one of the most important regions of Lithuania and the cradle of its state. The Latin inscription 'PATRIAM TUAM MUNDUM EXISTIMA' (consider your homeland to be the whole world) is displayed at the bottom of the coat of arms. The composition is surrounded by the inscriptions "LIETUVA" (Lithuania), the name of the region "AUKŠTAITIJA", the year of issue (2020) and the Lithuanian mint mark. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the European Union flag.
The edge of the coin, like all those issued by Lithuania in this value, has the legends: LAISVĖ * VIENYBĖ * GEROVĖ * (FREEDOM * UNITY * WELFARE *).
The issue volume is 500,000 coins, of which 5,000 in BU quality are issued in coincard at the price of € 9, in Lithuania.
