In current currency, coins dedicated to the Dog are not very common, although these, like those dedicated to animals in general, are in great demand among numismatic collectors. The last known issue is brought to us by the Hungarian National Bank and its Mint that has put on sale this month the first coin in a series of nine dedicated to "Hungarian Shepherd Dogs and Hunting Dogs". The Vizsla or Hungarian braco, is the national dog of Hungary and protagonist of the first piece of the series.
The central motif on the obverse is the two-thirds profile of the Hungarian short-haired Vizsla. In the upper legend the legend 'MAGYARORSZÁG' (Hungary) is shown, on the right, the denomination or facial value '2000 FORINT' on the left, the year of issuance 2019 and the mint mark 'BP', in two lines a under the other.
On the reverse, a hunting scene comes alive. As a hunting dog, Vizsla is a breed capable of performing all kinds of tasks, but it stands out mainly in the capture of small game in the field or in shallow water. On the reverse, in the foreground, a Hungarian vizsla with short hair is shown, stepping on the water in a typical search pose, while in the background there is a representation of another dog of the same breed that leaves between the reeds. In the upper legend you can read the name of the race 'MAGYAR VIZSLA' (Hungarian Vizsla).
This collection coin was designed by the sculptor Gábor Benő Pogány. Your brand or signature is hidden in the water representation.
The collection coin is made from an alloy of copper (75%), nickel (4%) and zinc (21%). It weighs 16 grams and has a diameter of 34 mm. The issuance is limited to just 10,000 coins all in Proof quality.
