After unveiling the design and some more information about the second 2 euro commemorative Luxembourg 2020 coin, dedicated to the "Birth of Crown Prince Charles", we are left with two opposing feelings, one good and one bad, although the good is not very good. , but I think the bad is very bad. I tell you and you judge for yourself.
We will start with the good one, although it is rather anecdotal, it will simply make Luxembourg currencies a little less predictable. As you all know, to date, the country's head of state appears on all Luxembourg coins, currently Grand Duke Henri. It seems that it was obligatory to do so. To our surprise, upon learning about the design of the new coin, we see that the effigy of the president does not appear. Surprised by the absence, comrade Rudolf, from Germany, has written to the Central Bank of Luxembourg asking about this situation, to which they have answered that although the effigy does not appear, the head of state is represented with his monogram, located on the upper left in the shape of a crowned letter H.
The sketch of the coin shows the image of the parents, Prince Guilllermo of Luxembourg, heir to the throne, and his wife, Princess Stephanie and, for now, the baby to whom the coin is dedicated, born on May 10, Charles Jean Phillipe Joseph Marie Guillaume.
Now comes the bad news. There will be two versions of this coin, one in which the coin would look like the image you see above and the other using, as was done in the 2012 and 2015 commemorations, the embossing technique. Through a series of points it will simulate a photograph, leaving something similar to what you can see below.
For now it is known with certainty that the coin in proof quality will come with the embossing technique, for the rest of the possible presentations it is not known which representation it will use.
Hopefully both end up being easy to get, for the first commemorative 2 euro coin that will have two clearly differentiated versions, not by a small mark, but by a clearly different image.
The question that arises now is the following: Have they presented to the European Commission, for approval, two different sketches? It should be like this, we are talking about two different currencies, in my opinion.
In the coming days more details about the coin will be revealed, such as its volume or date of issue, presentations, prices, etc ...
