Lucky Luke, the most famous cowboy in the comic world, has several reasons to celebrate, something that has not gone unnoticed by the Monnaie de Paris, which is preparing the issuance of several coins with which to celebrate the launch of its latest album, «Un cowboy dans le coton ”, and the 75th anniversary since the cartoonist Morris created it in 1946.At the moment, the issuance of two coins with facets of 10 and 50 euros minted in silver and gold respectively is announced, although throughout 2021 the issuance of some more is expected.
10 euro coin in silver
The obverse of the coin features a vignette from the new album that unfolds the story in Louisiana. Lucky Luke inherits a huge cotton plantation and must fight against the powerful of the region and against racial segregation, in which a racist white elite terrorizes its black peasants.
The reverse of the coin represents one of the most recognizable moments in Franco-Belgian comics. Lucky Luke faces his shadow and proves once again that he is the fastest shooter in the west. The mention "75 years" celebrates the character's birthday. The face value "10 euro" and the year of issue "2021" are also present on the reverse.
