New seminar on the way! The 14th ArchaeoSciences seminar will take place on 6 November 2020, online, and our guest speaker is Professor Petya Georgieva from Sofia University (Bulgaria).
She will give an online presentation entitled “Changes to Ceramic Production during the Eneolithic, First Signs of a Transition to Specialized Production”.
Professor Petya Georgieva got a PhD in the field of Archaeology at Sofia University in 1987 and in the same year started working as Assistant Professor at the university. Between 2015 - 2019 she was Head of the Archaeology Department of the Sofia University. Her activities at Sofia University are related to teaching and doctoral student supervision in the field of archaeology.
Research interests of Petya Georgieva are mainly in the field of prehistory, particularly to the Copper Age of the Southeast Europe on topics as technology of ceramic production, exploration of ceramics as a source of information about relative chronology and cultural affiliation, but also socio-economic structure and funeral practices of past human populations.
Since 1991, she leading long-term exploration of the archaeological site Kozareva Mogila - settlement and necropolis (Eastern Bulgaria), which includes conducting the summer field practice in prehistory for archaeology students.
Moreover, Petya Georgieva is an author and co-author of many scientific papers, reports, and books, and she was involved in various scientific projects related to the Eneolithic/ Copper Age and the transition to the Bronze Age in the fifth and fourth millennium BC.
