Robin Hood is the protagonist of the third and final coin of the series dedicated to the «825th anniversary of the Vienna Mint». The three coins that make up the series are linked to the ransom paid to Duke Leopold of Austria for the release of King Richard the Lionheart of England in 1194. This piece, like the previous two, is composed of an ounce of fine silver.
Robin Hood, considered the king of thieves, is the hero of numerous ballads dating from the late Middle Ages and early modern period. Over the centuries, his interpretation evolved from an outlaw to the fair character who robbed the rich to give them to the poor. It was Ivanhoe's novel ofSir Walter Scott, published in 1820, which forged the classic Robin Hood myth that prevails today. If Robin Hood really existed it is uncertain. However, what is clearer is that the taxes to which the people of England were subjected to collect the huge rescue caused violent social unrest in the country, which historians believe led to the origin of the legend of Robin Hood. However, linking this myth with the ransom paid by Ricardo Corazón de León is consistent, since special taxes were collected to collect this large sum. The myth of Robin Hood has its roots, so to speak, and these roots extend to the Viennese mint.
While the reverse of the coin features the 'King of Thieves', the obverse features the equestrian seal of Leopold V, which shows the duke as a military commander on horseback. The original image can be found in the Heiligenkreuz Monastery, near Vienna. This obverse is common to the three coins issued for the "825th anniversary of the Vienna Mint" that are usually traded linked to the daily price of silver but also has a design worthy of a coveted collector's item. As such, ideal currencies can be considered for both investments and numismatic collectors.
