To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Real as the national currency of Brazil, yesterday, August 28, the Central Bank of Brazil put into circulation 25 million bimetallic coins, with a face of 1 real (€ 0.22) alluding to the aforementioned event.
The real one was already used as a monetary unit of Brazil before the cruzeiro, until 1942. After successive changes in its currency (laughs, cruzeiro, cruzeiro novo, cruzeiro, crusader, crusader de novo, again cruzeiro and royal cruzeiro), Brazil adopted the real in 1994, as part of a process of macroeconomic and institutional reforms called Real Plan.
The coin shows, on the obverse, the hummingbird feeding its young in the nest, referring to the engraving of the 1 Real bill, launched in 1994. The bottom is composed of the diagonal lines characteristic of the real type coins. The gold ring presents the inscriptions "25 YEARS DO REAL" and "1994 * BRAZIL * 2019".
The reverse features the same design as the regular 1 real coin: in the silver core, a sphere superimposed by a strip and the constellation Cruzeiro do Sul allude to the National Flag. The nominal value «1 REAL» and the year of issuance «2019» complete the composition. The graphic shows a graphic design of the Marajoara indigenous culture.
