Every April 25, Australia celebrates its national holiday for the day of Anzac, the name by which the soldiers who formed the armed forces of Australia and New Zealand are known and who fought in the battle of Gallipoli of 1915 against the Ottoman Empire during the World War I, which are honored on this date.
This year a commemorative and colored 2 dollar coin has been issued as a way to pay tribute to fallen soldiers. More than 26,000 ANZAC soldiers were killed and tens of thousands were wounded in the battle of Allied troops in Gallipoli, in the Strait of Dardanelles, where they landed on 25 April 1915.
The reverse side of the coin has as its central motif the dome or dome of the Hall of Memory, Australian War Memorial, located in Canberra, in addition to the words "For Let's Not Forget" and its face value "Two Dollars". The design is by Tony Dean, whose initials "TD" appear on the right.
The obverse features the traditional image of Queen Elizabeth II.
