In the four-year cycle of celebration of cardinal virtues, started last year, the Philatelic and Numismatic Office dedicates the golden coin of 200 euros 2016 to Justice, entrusting the realization to the artist Chiara Principe.
The coin reproduces the fresco of Rafael Sanzio from the vault of the Stanza della Segnatura, in the Vatican Museums: Justice appears personified in a woman, sitting on a throne of clouds, that has in the right hand a sword facing upwards, In the act of making an election, and on the left a balance in perfect balance. The sword recalls the moral force necessary for Justice to impose itself and to enforce its own judgments, while the balance - along with the idea of pondering - suggests the balance and equity that is the object of Justice.
The obverse shows the image of Pope Francis.
