A honeycomb where honey seems to transform into gold and bees come to life like tiny automatons. This is Queen Bee, the new special edition of Bionic Genesis that Power Coin dedicates to the queen bee. The piece imagines a futuristic colony where nature and technology unite around a common resource: the "liquid gold" stored in the honeycomb.
Dated 2026 and with a face value of $20, it is made of five ounces of 999 sterling silver, with Proof quality and 24-karat gold-plated details. This special edition takes the concept of Bee, the two-ounce coin from the Bionic Genesis series, and develops it in a larger format, with a mintage of only 199 pieces.
A future built cell by cell
The universe of Bionic Genesis presents a science fiction scenario: bees have disappeared and humanity has created bionic replacements. Life is recreated through technology, and the hive becomes a system where each bee participates in a process of production, reproduction, and growth.
Within this narrative, Queen Bee places the queen at the center of the colony. Her figure connects the organization of the natural world with that of a programmed network: the cells are reminiscent of both a honeycomb and the modules of a technological structure, while the insects combine recognizable forms with details of a mechanical appearance.
The colony's "liquid gold"
The gold represents honey as the fruit of collective labor. Its brilliance contrasts with the dark and silver areas of the honeycomb, and draws the eye to the cells that appear to be filling up and overflowing.
Reverse: The queen and the honeycomb's riches
The reverse side depicts the honeycomb in several layers. Three golden bees appear on the hexagonal grid, arranged in different positions. The queen is distinguished by her larger, more elongated body, located in the upper right of the composition.
The cells alternate between dark surfaces, silver areas, small dots, and lines reminiscent of circuit connections. In the center, the gold gains volume and extends downward like a thick drop of honey. This interplay of heights and textures transforms the honeycomb's geometry into a scene with depth.
The idea of the queen as the vital center of the colony explains its larger size. The issue takes this role as its starting point and transforms it into an image of power: a figure who stands out among the worker bees and the cells where the fruits of their labor accumulate.
Front: life transformed into a digital process
The obverse continues the story of the honeycomb from another perspective. The Niue public seal occupies the center of a composition made up of hexagons of different sizes, which appear to expand outwards. Golden bees and small shapes suggesting different stages of transformation are distributed among them.
According to the coin's design, a bee is born inside a small golden hexagon, evolves, and becomes part of the system, contributing to the creation of new cells. This sequence represents a continuous cycle of creation and growth. The inscriptions "QUEEN BEE , " "2026," and "$20" appear at the top.
