Italy has just turned its numismatic spotlight on one of its most universal symbols: Ferrari. The new issue from the Italian State Mint (Zecca dello Stato), part of the "Eccellenze italiane" series, consists of four high-quality coins: a silver triptych of three €6 coins and a single €100 gold coin weighing one ounce.

This is not an issue dedicated to nostalgia or the great historical models of the past. The choice is much more contemporary: Ferrari is represented by three vehicles that speak to the present and future of the brand: the Ferrari 499P, the Ferrari F80, and the Ferrari 296 Speciale . Competition, technological innovation, and Italian excellence come together in a collection that, by its theme and presentation, is destined to spark interest beyond strictly numismatic collectors.

The issue was put on pre-sale on April 9, 2026, as part of the 2026 Italian numismatic collection, while its official issue date was set for June 4, 2026. Both references are already listed as sold out in the official IPZS store, a circumstance that highlights the enormous appeal that Ferrari continues to exert even outside the automotive world.

Ferrari, Italian excellence recognized worldwide

The "Italian Excellence" series aims to pay tribute to those entities that best represent Italian talent, creativity, and industrial prowess. Ferrari occupies a privileged place within this group. Few brands are able to simultaneously convey sportiness, technology, design, and international prestige.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari, the Maranello-based company has built a unique identity that transcends the automotive world. Its emblem, the legendary Prancing Horse, is recognized in virtually every corner of the globe and is one of Italy's most valuable industrial symbols.

The coins issued this year don't look back. They don't celebrate classic models or historic anniversaries, but instead focus on contemporary Ferrari, a brand that continues to develop new technologies and transfer racing expertise to road vehicles.

A spectacular silver triptych

The main novelty of the issue is a triptych consisting of three 6-euro coins minted in 999/1000 silver. Together they have a face value of 18 euros and a total weight of 93.312 grams, equivalent to three ounces of pure silver.

All three pieces feature a Proof finish on their obverses, while the common reverse uses the Reverse Proof technique, a combination that creates an attractive visual contrast between the polished surfaces and the satin reliefs.

The set comes in a case and has a maximum print run of 5,000 copies, a relatively small number for a theme with so much potential among collectors and motor enthusiasts.

The Ferrari 499P

The first coin is dedicated to the Ferrari 499P, the endurance prototype that has returned the Italian brand to the top of long-distance racing.

The vehicle is depicted in the center of the obverse. The inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” appears at the top, while the face value “6 EURO” and the year of issue “2026” are at the bottom. The letter “R,” identifying the Rome mint, is visible on the left, and the signature of the designer, Valerio De Seta, is at the bottom right.

The Ferrari F80

The second coin shows the Ferrari F80, one of the most advanced models ever developed by the Maranello firm.

The composition maintains the same scheme as the previous coin: the vehicle occupies the central area, accompanied by the national legend, the face value, the date of issue, the mint mark and the designer's signature.

Its presence in this collection symbolizes Ferrari's constant pursuit of technological innovation.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale

The third coin is dedicated to the Ferrari 296 Speciale, a model that represents the evolution of the Italian brand's high-performance sports cars.

Its design follows the same structure as the other two pieces of the triptych and completes a selection that perfectly summarizes three of Ferrari's current pillars: competition, innovation and sportiness.

A common reverse for all three coins

All three pieces share the same reverse side. It features the iconic Prancing Horse, the symbol of Ferrari and one of the most recognizable images in world motorsport.

This side features a Reverse Proof finish, giving absolute prominence to the brand emblem and reinforcing the feeling of exclusivity of the collection.

The exclusive 100 euro gold coin

Alongside the silver triptych, Italy has issued an impressive 100 euro coin minted in one ounce of 999.9 fine gold.

The coin weighs 31.104 grams, has a diameter of 28 millimeters, and boasts an extremely limited mintage of only 499 pieces. Its official issue price was 4,450 euros.

The choice of a mintage of 499 units does not seem accidental, as it coincides with the name of the vehicle featured on the coin: the Ferrari 499P.

The obverse features this racing prototype. The legend “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” occupies the upper part, accompanied by the mint mark “R”, the face value “100 EURO” and the year “2026”.

The inscription at the bottom stands out:

«WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPION 2025»

It commemorates Ferrari's success in the World Endurance Championship, one of the brand's greatest recent sporting achievements.

As with the silver triptych, the reverse is presided over by the Cavallino Rampante and has a Reverse Proof finish.

One detail that unites the entire collection

The three silver coins and the gold piece all share a very special element: the edge is engraved with the inscription "FERRARI".

This is a detail that adds extra personality to the issue and fits perfectly with the exclusive character of the collection.

21st-century Ferrari turned into currency

The most interesting aspect of this issue is that it showcases a thoroughly contemporary Ferrari. The Ferrari 499P, the Ferrari F80, and the Ferrari 296 Speciale weren't chosen for nostalgia or their historical value, but because they represent the direction the brand is currently taking.

The Ferrari 499P symbolizes a return to success in major endurance racing. The Ferrari F80 represents cutting-edge automotive technology. The Ferrari 296 Speciale embodies the evolution of high-performance sports cars into a new generation defined by efficiency and innovation.

The result is one of the most original Italian issues of 2026, a collection that unites numismatics, engineering, competition and design under one of the most recognizable emblems in the world: Ferrari.
