The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has begun, and the Monnaie de Paris has joined the celebration with new coins dedicated to the world's greatest football spectacle. The recently unveiled issue pays tribute to both international football and the tournament's host cities: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This release consists of two pieces: the first is a 10 euro silver proof coin with a striking colored reverse, while the second is a 20 euro coin minted in pure gold.

Each coin incorporates on its obverse various elements representative of the different organizing countries, seeking to capture the multicultural spirit of a historic edition that will bring together millions of fans from all continents.

The FIFA World Cup, held every four years, has become one of the most-watched events in the world, with audiences exceeding billions of viewers. Football, currently considered the most popular sport, has enormous global influence and an international community of over 200 million registered players.

Obverse

On the front, we see a footballer in the foreground, his back to the camera, kicking a ball about to shoot. The backdrop features iconic buildings from the three host countries of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. To his left are Toronto's CN Tower and Rogers Centre, two landmarks of the Canadian skyline. Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, stands in the center. Finally, to the player's right, we see New York's famous Statue of Liberty. The official inscription "FIFA WORLD CUP 26" and the word "FOOTBALL" complete the design.

Reverse

On the reverse, the FIFA trophy is positioned in the center, facing the official motto "WE ARE 26". The face value appears on the left, the initials "RF" for the French Republic on the right, while the year of issue is shown at the bottom of the design.
