The Bank of Russia has announced the issuance of a new silver collector coin with a face value of 3 rubles , dedicated to one of the country's most iconic and exciting sports: ice hockey .

This piece is part of the commemorative series "Russian Sports" and pays tribute to a sport that is not only a symbol of the Russian winter, but also a source of national pride for its countless victories in world championships and Olympic Games.

Struck in 925 sterling silver and weighing 31.1 grams , the coin features a 39-millimeter diameter and a Proof finish , combining glossy and matte surfaces to highlight every artistic detail. The fluted edge and limited edition of 3,000 pieces make it a highly attractive piece for collectors and hockey fans.

The obverse depicts a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation, above it along the edge the inscription in a semicircle 'РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ' (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides, below the coat of arms are the chemical symbol and the metal fineness on the left and the fine metal content and mint mark on the right, in the lower center in three lines are the inscription 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin '3 РУБЛЯ' (3 RUBLES) and the year of issue '2025 г.' (2025).

The reverse captures the intensity of the game: two players fight for the puck while a goalie protects the net, with a laser-treated background creating a matte contrast that enhances the scene. The word “HOCKEY” (Hockey) can be read in the upper right corner.

Ice hockey is a team sport played on an ice rink. Two teams compete to propel a puck into the opposing goal using sticks. Each team fields six players: a goalie, two defensemen, and three forwards. The game consists of three periods of 20 minutes of net playing time, and the team with the most goals at the end of regulation time wins. Players wear specialized protective equipment to minimize the risk of injury, as it is a fast-paced, physically demanding, contact sport.

This sport requires not only excellent physical condition but also advanced skating skills, precise puck handling, and a strong capacity for teamwork. Ice hockey is extremely popular in many countries and has been part of the Olympic Games since 1920.

In Russia, the history of modern hockey began in 1946 with the first USSR Championship. Since then, the country has established itself as a world power in the sport, with professional leagues, youth teams, and a passionate fan base that keeps it alive generation after generation.
