On January 15, Belgium issued its first commemorative 2-euro coin for 2024 under the name of the "Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union."
The coin has a circulation of 130,000 units. 125,000 are distributed in coincards in BU quality in Dutch or French, while the other 5,000 pieces are available in Proof quality and come presented in a case.
The design of the coin shows, in the lower left part, the text "BELGIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU 2024". In the center, 27 swallows (27 Member States) surround the country code BE. On the left: "IB", the initials of the designer Iris Bruijns, at the bottom the mint master's mark (an Erlenmeyer flask) and the mint mark (the staff of Mercury).
