For today we have a new issue, or rather put on sale, of a new commemorative 2-euro coin that, although issued by Belgium, has a great link with our country since the protagonist is Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany, king of Spain from 1516 to 1556 and Emperor of Germany from 1519 to 1556.
Under the long name of "500th anniversary of the appearance of the ordinance of the second period of coin issuance during the reign of Charles V", this new commemorative 2 euro coin refers to the second series of coins of the "Carolus florin" that They were issued under his reign as Carlos V, unlike the first series these pieces already had his name and image.
On the right side of the coin appears the bust of Emperor Charles V (Carolus V) looking to the left. He wears his typical Renaissance velvet beret and fur-lined toga. Around his neck hangs the chain with the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece. He is looking at the gold Carolus Gulden, the coin that celebrates its fifth centenary. On the left is the country name BE and the year 2021 and the text CAROLUS V.
At the bottom are the Royal Dutch Mint (Mercury) mint mark, the Belgian mint master's mark (Herzele municipality coat of arms) and LL (designer Luc Luycx's initials).
This coin of which only 155,000 pieces are issued does not go into circulation, so to have it you will have to buy one of the 150,000 coincards (two versions) with the coin in BU quality, or one of the 5,000 in Proof quality.
