On February 26, the Bank of Ukraine issued two coins with 5 and 10 grivnas coins, one minted in alpaca and the other in silver, both with the same design, dedicated to the "Palanok medieval castle". This ancient historical monument of military architecture, is one of the most original fortification structures of the late Middle Ages of Central Europe. The castle was built in the southwest of Mukachevo on a mountain of volcanic origin at an altitude of 188 meters above sea level and 68 meters above the central part of the city. For centuries it protected the inhabitants of the city from enemies. During its existence, the fortress has been rebuilt and restored on more than one occasion.
On the obverse of the coin is a stylized image of the inner courtyard of the castle; in the upper part above the brick entrance door is the state emblem of Ukraine, under which the inscription UKRAINE appears; Below, on the pavement we see the face value, 5 or 10 grivnas (depending on the currency), in the lower part is the year of issue of the currency, 2019 and on the right the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the back of the coin is a stylized image of Palanok Castle and its reflection on the water that surrounded it in antiquity, in the center represents a well on which an old coin is thrown generating waves in the water. On chains that divide the composition in half, inscriptions appear PALANOK CASTLE, The inner part of the circumference of the coin is surrounded by stone masonry.
