On February 5, Italy issued its first commemorative 2 euro coin of 2025, for now only in collectors' versions. This new coin celebrates the “Jubilee 2025” proclaimed by the Catholic Church. Under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope”, it invites the faithful to reflect on faith, peace and fraternity in a challenging world.
During this event, millions of pilgrims will visit Rome to cross the Holy Door in the major basilicas, a symbol of grace and forgiveness. The Jubilee will include liturgical celebrations, acts of charity and cultural events, promoting unity and hope on a global level.
The coin, designed by Claudia Momoni, shows in the centre a representation of the Holy Door located near St. Peter's Basilica. At the top, in an arch, the inscription "IUBILAEUM", while at the bottom, still in an arch to close the inscription in Latin, a series of alternating fish, empty and full, a symbol of Christianity. On the left, "2025", the year of issue of the coin, and "R", the identifier of the Mint of Rome; on the right, "RI", the acronym for the Italian Republic, and "CM", the initials of the author Claudia Momoni.
The issuance volume is 3,000,000 coins that will be put into circulation on a date to be determined.
