On 5 December, the Bank of Ukraine issued a 2-hryvnia coin dedicated to Oleksiy Kolomiychenko, an otolaryngologist professor and scientist, who created the scientific school of otolaryngology in Ukraine, being the organizer and first director of the Otorhinolaryngology Research Institute of Kiev . He stood out for having made a significant contribution to the development of the problem of the tonsils, the diagnosis and treatment of reduced hearing, the inflammatory processes of the middle ear, the conservative therapy of the main diseases of the ear, throat and nose. He initiated experiments aimed at the clinical application of ultrasound and laser radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of otorhinolaryngology.
On the back of the coin shows the portrait of Oleksiy Kolomiychenko, in which he appears looking at a microscope (on the right); the vertical inscriptions, on the left, of his name in Ukrainian ОЛЕКСІЙ КОЛОМІЙЧЕНКО, and the years in which he lived, 1898 - 1974.
On the obverse of the coin is a stylized composition: in a rectangle, a decorative image of a human profile, symbolically highlighting the organs treated by the doctor; The vertical inscription UKRAINE (left), to the right of which is the emblem of the State of Ukraine; below, the nominal value (2 hryvn) and the year of issue of the currency (2018); the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine, on the right, completes the design.
