In the four-year commemorative cycle of the Cardinal Virtues, the Philatelic and Numismatic Office dedicates the golden coin of 200 euros from 2018 to Temperance, entrusting its realization to the artist Antonella Napolione. The virtue of Temperance is the moral virtue that moderates the attraction of pleasures and makes a balance in the use of created goods. She ensures the dominion of the will over the instincts and maintains the desires within the limits of honesty. The tempered person orients his own sensitive appetites to the good, preserves a healthy discretion, and does not follow his own instinct and strength, seconding the desires of his own heart.

Temperance is often depicted as a woman who mixes wine with water, diluting it to reduce the intoxicating effect. The sword resting on the column, is partially wrapped to symbolize the ability to fight maintaining control, and not resorting only to force, but mastering the instinct with the spirit.
