One of the most recognizable pieces of classical music of all time, the Blue Danube in Austria is so evocative that is considered the unofficial national anthem of the country. By Johann Strauss (son) in 1866 and originally performed in 1867, the waltz celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2017. It is usually the first song you hear on the year in the Austrian radio, the blue Danube is synonymous with the New Year and is therefore the perfect theme for New Year's currency issued by the Mint of Austria.

Although the official release date for this currency of 5 euros is on 7 December, the date stamp and corresponds to 2017.




The reverse features in the foreground a detail of Johann Strauss monument located in the Stadtpark in Vienna, where a gilded bronze statue inaugurated in 1921 pays homage, while in the background a couple dancing a waltz. The obverse of the coin nine sides, shows the coats of arms of the nine federal provinces of Austria.







The coin with face of 5 euros, as all emitting Austria in this value, is available in two versions, the face value of copper and silver, presented in portfolio, at a price of € 18.60 in virtual shop of the Austrian mint.
