The Swiss Mint, Swissmint, issued its second bimetallic coin belonging to the “Swiss Glaciers” series, which is dedicated to the Rosenlaui Glacier, one of more than 1,400 glaciers located in the Swiss Alps.

On this coin we can see the Rosenlaui Glacier, which is located at the northeastern end of the Bernese Alps, south of Meiringen. This small glacier covers an area of about 6 km 2. The starting point is at Wetterkessel, on the north-eastern flank of the Wetterhorn group. To the south, the glacier is connected to the Gauli Glacier and the Upper Grindelwald Glacier via spruce-covered ridges. To the west, it is flanked by the rocky ridge of the Wellhorn and Klein Wellhorn, and to the east by Dossen. The tongue of the glacier is located at about 2,000 m above sea level.

This is where the Weissenbach rises, plunging steeply into the valley over a series of waterfalls and emptying into the Reichenbach. This flows through the Reichenbach Falls through the Reichenbach Valley to the Aare.

Today the Rosenlaui Glacier area, together with the Aletsch Glacier and surrounding regions, is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Swiss Alps UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.

The bimetallic coin has been designed by Swissmint engraver Remo Mascherini.
