In 2020, the Italian Mint, Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, launched a new series of coins dedicated to highlighting its Food and Wine Culture. In this 2022 there are two more coins that join the collection, the first issued on June 28 , dedicated to Primitivo wine and Orecchiette pasta, and the one I present to you today, where the protagonists are Franciacorta wine and Panettone , announced for next November 16.

The obverse of the coin shows, in the foreground, some of the ingredients of "Toni's Bread", from which, according to legend, the modern name of Panettone, a typical Lombard dessert, derives: egg, lemon, flour, orange peel , candied citron, sultanas, butter; in the composition we can see a typical basket used to cool the inverted cake after cooking; on the left, the silhouettes of a glass and a bottle of sparkling wine. In the background, in a stylized graphic, a series of Guelph merlons, characteristic of the castles in the Franciacorta area, and a skyline of representative monuments of Lombardy: the Ducal Palace of Mantua, the Loggia Palace of Brescia and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Torrazzo of Cremona; sealing the composition is the Rosa Camuna, symbol of the Lombardy region inspired by the cave engravings of Valle Camonica, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. At the top, in a circle, the inscription "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA". In the exergue, the author's signature «M. BONIFACE”.

The reverse shows a panettone and a glass into which the sparkling wine typical of the Franciacorta area is poured; in the background, a profile of the Milan Cathedral on which a detail of the Gothic rose window with the Visconti heraldic symbol called “Race” stands out, placed in the central window of the apse of the Duomo. Above, arched, the inscription “SAPORI D'ITALIA”; on the right, the value “5 EURO”; on the left “R”, identification of the Rome Mint; in the exergue, "2022", year of issue of the coin, bordered on the sides by decorative elements representative of the Rosa Camuna.
